Uncommonly Out of the Box: Sean Suen Fall/Winter 2024-25

Sean Suen, the master of shapes, presented a Fall/Winter 2024-25 collection that challenges the conventions of the male wardrobe.

Among the extensive list of designers showcasing their work at Paris Men’s Fashion Week, one in particular stands out for his skill in redefining key elements of men’s sartorial choices. Since founding his brand in 2012, Sean Suen has shared with the world a remarkable vision of what it means to dress well, using clothing as a means of communication that expresses more than meets the eye at first glance.

For his Fall/Winter 2024-25 collection, the Chinese designer once again demonstrates that masculine elegance comes in more than one form (despite what red carpets might lead us to believe). Drawing on his studies in classical art, Sean Suen immersed us in a world where the novelty lies in unconventional silhouettes: oversized coats, extra-long-sleeved blazers, and sweaters combining unusual textures like knit and fur took center stage in a collection that also reinterprets masculinity through thigh-high boots, wide-legged tailored trousers, and bold choices in the derrière area.

The latter point is what stands out the most in Suen’s intricate and delicate craftsmanship: his fashion is created to warrant a second look or to be examined with a magnifying glass due to those small details that, after a first glance, might escape our notice—a double belt here, an additional button there, or an extra bit of fabric over yonder.

Surrendering to asymmetry in some of his designs and to layering in others, Sean Suen continues to incorporate Eastern influences into his designs to, in his words, “alter the balance,” softening and, at the same time, intensifying shapes in a juxtaposition of eras and cultures.

Season after season (and this one is no exception), Sean Suen manages to turn the familiar on its head, transforming structures and elevating experimentation.
